The LUNI team feeds around 1000 cats on Gili Trawangan and Gili Air daily. We also provide clean, fresh drinking water for the cats and other animals to ensure safe hydration and reduce the risk of kidney disease and other health issues.
During these ‘Pussy Patrols’, we check on the health of the island cat population and identify unsterilised, injured or sick cats, as well as small kittens without their mother. These cats and kittens are then brought to our clinic to receive the help and care they need. Unsterilised cats will be treated as part of our Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (CNVR) programme.
During every patrol we do three things — making the daily rounds a complete welfare check-in for the island's cat population.
Feed & hydrate
Nutritious food and fresh, clean water at fixed feeding stations across both islands — ensuring every cat has access to safe daily meals and reducing the risk of kidney disease caused by dehydration.
Health check
Every patrol is a welfare check. We look for signs of injury, illness, weight loss, or distress — and cats that need care are taken to one of our two permanent clinics for free treatment.
Sterilisation
Unsterilised cats are identified during feeding rounds and brought into our CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) programme — the most effective long-term way to manage the island cat population humanely.
